# How do drone light shows work? Let us tell you!

Drone light shows are becoming increasingly more sophisticated and popular, captivating audiences with their mesmerizing displays of light and movement. But how do drone light shows work? In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the technology behind drone light shows and how they are able to create such spectacular stories in the skies.

In short

We are Drone Stories. We flew the first independently orchestrated drone performance (Franchise Freedom, with Studio DRIFT) and have since flown 1,000 drones over Central Park, 15 shows at Burning Man and the F1 drivers in Las Vegas. Most shows fall between 100 and 1,000+ drones.

## How do drone light shows work

The first step in creating a drone light show is pre-production. Together with the client, we have to come up with a mind-blowing story to share in the skies. This includes discussing the wishes of the client and finalizing a working concept.

The second step includes transforming the concept into a show. We love this creative process, were we create storyboards and come up with animations of the show. It’s our goal to create a show filled with new, purpose driven perspectives. At the end of this step we can start with setting things in motion, as the entire story of the show is agreed upon.

We can then proceed with the third step, where we have to get our hands dirty. Checking out the site, ensuring all the permits are in place and getting the drones to said location for example. Also, we have to program the drones. Each drone is equipped with a set of LED lights, and the operator uses specialized software to program the drones to create different patterns and designs. The software can also be used to program the drones to move in specific ways, such as flying in formation or creating a “dance” choreography.

Once the drones have been programmed, we are ready for the final step, showtime! Our unique Nova Sky Stories Star Drones are launched into the sky. They are controlled by a central computer system that sends commands to each drone, telling them where to fly and what lights to display. This allows them to move in perfect coordination, creating a seamless display of light and movement.

One of the most impressive aspects of drone light shows is their ability to create 3D displays. Our [drone light show company](/) achieves this by using multiple drones that fly at different heights and angles, creating the illusion of depth. This allows the drones to create shapes and designs that appear to be floating in the air, adding an extra layer of visual interest to the show.

## Where drone light shows are flown

Drone light shows are incredibly popular for events such as festivals, sporting events, and corporate events. They can also be used for a range of other applications such as mapping, search and rescue, and even in architecture. The cost of a drone light show can vary depending on the number of drones used, the length of the show, and the complexity of the lighting and music effects. However, it’s worth noting that many companies are now offering a wide range of services to cater to different budgets and events.

So, now you know how drone light shows work. Drone light shows are a truly spectacular form of entertainment that use advanced technology to create mesmerizing displays of light and movement. Whether you’re looking to add a touch of magic to a special event or simply want to experience something truly unique and memorable, a [drone light show](/magazine/what-is-a-drone-light-show/) is definitely worth checking out.
