Drone Stories

Three nights, five flights a night

EDC Mexico

For three nights, 200 drones flew above the main stage of EDC Mexico at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City. We made the show for Insomniac and flew it five times a night.

Five flights a night

Each night opened with an opening ceremony, followed by four shorter flights through the evening: Grow, Blossom, Pollinate and Kinetic Bloom, in the flower theme of the festival’s main stage. On the last night a closing flight took the place of Kinetic Bloom. We built the show on our work for EDC Las Vegas and adapted it to the site in Mexico City.

Flying in the middle of a city

The racetrack sits inside Mexico City, and the drones navigate by GPS. Our crew tested the GPS accuracy on site before and between the show nights, and measured the radio spectrum above the field with a spectrum analyser. Where the signal was disturbed, we moved the show area and tested again before the next flight. We flew the show with our Mexican partner SkyLights.
