Drone shows in Mexico: Cabo San Lucas

Yes, we fly drone shows in Mexico. In Cabo San Lucas we flew 200 drones for 150 guests above a bay, with the drones passing over the audience, and returned for a second private event. A show in Mexico needs an approval from the aviation authority (AFAC) for the site and time, a site survey and a weather window.

Drone shows in Mexico: Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas: drones above the guests

Normally a drone show never flies over people. The audience stands behind a safety zone and watches the show from a distance. For Live through this, a private event in Cabo San Lucas, we found a way around that: we put cages in the middle of the fly zone, so the guests could stand inside the show. 200 drones flew for 13 minutes above 150 guests. From below, you are not watching a show; you are in it.

The show flew above a bay. The water mirrored every drone, so each figure appeared twice: once in the sky and once on the sea.

A second show in Cabo

We came back to Cabo San Lucas for another private event, again designed around the people in the audience rather than around a logo. Most of what we fly in Mexico is like this: weddings, birthdays and celebrations where the story is personal.

What a drone show in Mexico takes

Airspace approval. Every show needs an approval from Mexico's civil aviation authority (AFAC) for the exact site, date and time window. Near an airport it takes more lead time, and resort areas are often close to one. We handle the application.

The site. Beaches, bays, golf courses and the grounds of a hacienda work well: open space for the take-off field and a clear safety zone between the drones and the guests. Our crew checks the site before we confirm.

The weather. Show drones fly in wind up to 40 km/h (25 mph) and handle a few drops of rain. On the coast the evening wind decides a lot, so we plan a weather window and, where possible, a back-up slot.

Time. Count on about a month for a known site. The permit, not the animation, usually sets the clock.

How many drones, and what it costs

For a wedding or a private celebration with up to a few hundred guests, 100 to 200 drones tell a full story. Larger events and public celebrations call for more; read how many drones a show needs. Our shows start at $50,000; most land between $100,000 and $200,000. How drone show cost works.
