The story behind the lights
Social Sacrifice is a Studio DRIFT artwork about collective intelligence: how a school of fish, with no leader, outsmarts a predator by moving as one. The school is white, the predators red, and the light of every drone responds to how tightly the group holds together. Flying it inside a sixteenth-century church, over people's heads, meant rethinking everything we knew about safety, positioning and choreography.
Produced by Drone Stories and SKYMAGIC, co-commissioned by Aorist and TBA21-Academy's Ocean Space, with a soundtrack by Don Diablo. We have flown in Venice several times since, including at the Arsenale.
